The challenge: a great plumber nobody could find at 2 a.m.
Drainline Plumbing had the part that's hard to fake — a licensed, insured crew with a five-star reputation and genuinely fast emergency response. What it didn't have was a website that matched. The existing site was a DIY drag-and-drop build the owner had thrown together two years earlier between jobs.
On a laptop it looked passable. On a phone — where over 60% of "emergency plumber near me" searches happen — it was a problem. Pages took more than six seconds to load on mobile data, the phone number sat below the fold, and the whole site was a single bloated "Services" page that gave Google nothing to rank. The result: it sat on page three for every search that mattered, and pulled in roughly nine calls a month from the web.
The math was brutal. A flooded-basement homeowner at 2 a.m. doesn't scroll to page three and they don't wait six seconds — 53% of mobile visitors abandon a page that takes longer than three seconds to load. Drainline wasn't losing to better plumbers. It was losing to plumbers with faster, clearer websites.
"I knew we were better than the guys outranking us. I just had no idea how many calls we were leaving on the table every single night."
— Owner, Drainline PlumbingWhat we built
The brief was narrow and we kept it that way: turn mobile searchers into phone calls. Every decision served that one goal. (You can explore the live Drainline site here.)
A site engineered for the emergency moment
- Tap-to-call fixed to every screen. A sticky call button rides the top of every page on mobile, so a panicked homeowner is one tap from help — no scrolling, no hunting.
- Ten dedicated service pages. Drain cleaning, water heater repair, water heater install, leak detection, sewer line, repipe, fixture install, 24/7 emergency, and commercial each got its own page — so Google could finally rank Drainline for each service instead of one vague catch-all.
- Four service-area landing pages. One page each for the neighborhoods Drainline actually covers, so "emergency plumber in [neighborhood]" had a real page to match.
- A 4-field emergency intake form. Name, phone, problem, address — that's it. Long forms convert under 7% during emergencies; this one texts the dispatcher instantly.
- Trust signals up top. License number, insured/bonded badges, upfront-pricing promise, and live Google reviews — the things that win a $4,800 sewer job over two other quotes.
- Sub-2-second mobile load. Compressed photography, lean code, and no heavy plugins. The site now loads before the old one finished its first image.
The results
Drainline went live in 18 days. The shift in call volume started within the first two weeks — before the SEO work had even fully indexed — purely because the new site converted the existing traffic far better. The compounding came after.
Web calls more than tripled
By month four, web-sourced phone calls climbed from 9 to 31 a month — a 3.4× increase. Two forces stacked: the site converted a much higher share of visitors into calls (the sticky tap-to-call button alone was a step change), and the new service-area pages pushed Drainline onto page one of Google for "emergency plumber" across its core neighborhoods.
| Metric | Before | After (month 4) |
|---|---|---|
| Web calls / month | 9 | 31 |
| Mobile bounce rate | 61% | 24% |
| Mobile load time | 6.4s | 1.8s |
| Google ranking ("emergency plumber") | Page 3 | Page 1 |
| Pages Google can rank | 1 | 14 |
Payback in six weeks
Here's the number that matters to a business owner: the $4,200 site paid for itself in about six weeks. A single water heater install or sewer line job covers a big slice of the build, and the new calls included plenty of both. Over the first six months, the site attributed an estimated $58,000 in booked jobs — a roughly 13× return before the first half-year was out.
The takeaway: Drainline didn't need more traffic to triple its calls — it needed a site that converted the traffic it already had. A fast, mobile-first build with tap-to-call and service-area pages turned an invisible business into the first one a 2 a.m. searcher reaches.

How much did Drainline Plumbing's website cost?
Drainline Plumbing invested $4,200 in a custom website build, which included ten service pages, four service-area landing pages, an emergency-intake form, professional photography direction, and local SEO. The site paid for itself in roughly six weeks once emergency calls began routing through it.
What results did the new plumbing website produce?
Within four months, web-sourced phone calls rose from 9 to 31 per month — a 3.4× increase. The site reached page one of Google for "emergency plumber" searches in its service area, cut mobile bounce rate from 61% to 24%, and attributed an estimated $58,000 in booked jobs in the first six months against the $4,200 build cost.
How long did the plumbing website take to build?
The Drainline Plumbing site went from kickoff to launch in 18 days. The largest time cost was gathering real photos of the trucks and crew and confirming service-area copy — not the design and development itself.
What made the biggest difference for the plumbing site's results?
Three things drove most of the lift: a tap-to-call button fixed to the top of every page for 2 a.m. emergencies, dedicated service-area landing pages that let Google rank Drainline for each neighborhood, and a sub-2-second mobile load time. Together they converted far more of the same traffic into actual phone calls.
