The challenge: a big following, a broken path to book
Luna's marketing was working beautifully at the top — 14,000 followers, a constant stream of before-and-afters, a waitlist for its best stylists. The audience was there. But the path from "I love this" to "I'm booked" was broken: the only way to book was to slide into the salon's DMs, which stylists answered between clients — hours of lag, missed messages, and followers who lost the impulse before anyone replied.
A scroll-happy follower at 11 p.m. ready to book a balayage couldn't — no website to send them to, no calendar to claim a slot, no deposit to hold it. The moment passed, and with it the booking.
And no-shows hurt: verbal, DM-based bookings with no deposit and no reminder meant empty chairs the salon couldn't fill last-minute. Every missed appointment was an hour of a stylist's day that earned nothing.
"Our Instagram was doing all this work, and then we'd lose people in the DMs. We were answering 'are you free Thursday?' at midnight, between foils."
— Owner, Luna StudioWhat we built
The whole job was closing the gap between the feed and the chair — a site that turns a follower into a booked, deposit-held appointment in under a minute. (You can explore the live Luna Studio site here.)
A bridge from the feed to the chair
- 24/7 online booking. A real calendar where clients pick a stylist, service, and time and book instantly, any hour, no DM required.
- Deposits at booking. A card-on-file deposit holds the slot, which all but ended last-minute no-shows.
- Automated reminders. Text and email confirmations cut the forgot-my-appointment cancellations the salon used to eat.
- An Instagram-to-booking bridge. A link-in-bio landing page and a gallery that mirrors the feed, so the jump from a post to a booking is seamless and on-brand.
- Stylist profiles & portfolios. Each stylist's specialty and work, so followers book the right artist with confidence (and the stars stay busy).
- A mobile-first, sub-2-second build. Because nearly all the traffic arrives from a phone, mid-scroll.
The results
Online bookings rose 38% in the first two months — the same Instagram audience, finally able to act the moment they felt the impulse instead of waiting on a DM reply.
The DMs cleared
Booking moved off the stylists' phones onto an always-on calendar, freeing hours a week and ending the midnight back-and-forth. Stylists got their evenings back, and no follower waited on a reply that came too late.
No-shows fell about 60%
Deposits at booking plus automated reminders turned soft verbal holds into committed, paid-for appointments — empty chairs into revenue. The deposit alone changed how seriously clients treated a slot.
| Metric | Before | After (month 2) |
|---|---|---|
| Bookings / month | 210 | 290 |
| Booking availability | DMs, business hours | 24/7 online |
| No-show rate | 18% | 7% |
| Time from interest to booked | Hours (DM reply) | Instant |
| Mobile load time | 4.9s | 1.6s |
Payback in about six weeks
At salon ticket values, the added appointments covered the $3,900 build in roughly six weeks. From there, every booking the site captured that a DM would have lost was pure upside.
The takeaway: Luna didn't need more followers — it needed to let the followers it had book in the moment. Closing the gap between the feed and the calendar, with a deposit to hold the slot, turned a beautiful Instagram into a full appointment book.
